UBUNTU-CVE-2024-47692: SQL Injection
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: return -EINVAL when namelen is 0 When we have a corrupted main.sqlite in /var/lib/nfs/nfsdcld/, it may result in namelen being 0, which will cause memdupuser() to return ZEROSIZEPTR. When we access the name.data that has been assigned the value of ZEROSIZEPTR in nfs4clienttoreclaim(), null pointer dereference is triggered. Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems running the affected Ubuntu Linux kernel packages that use the NFS server client-tracking daemon, nfsdcld, and its database at /var/lib/nfs/nfsdcld/main.sqlite are relevant. The failure path is triggered when that database is corrupted and contains a record with a zero-length name.
What is the operational impact of a corrupted client-tracking database?
A zero name length can cause nfsdcld to dereference a null-derived pointer in nfs4_client_to_reclaim(). The reported result is a null pointer dereference, which can cause a denial of service.
How can administrators identify this condition?
Investigate corruption of /var/lib/nfs/nfsdcld/main.sqlite and look for nfsdcld failures or kernel reports referencing nfs4_client_to_reclaim. The supplied diagnostic shows a KASAN null-pointer-dereference report during nfsdcld processing.
