UBUNTU-CVE-2024-47698: High severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drivers: media: dvb-frontends/rtl2832: fix an out-of-bounds write error Ensure index in rtl2832pidfilter does not exceed 31 to prevent out-of-bounds access. dev->filters is a 32-bit value, so setbit and clearbit functions should only operate on indices from 0 to 31. If index is 32, it will attempt to access a non-existent 33rd bit, leading to out-of-bounds access. Change the boundary check from index > 32 to index >= 32 to resolve this issue. [hverkuil: added fixes tag, rtl2830pidfilter -> rtl2832pidfilter in logmsg]

Change the boundary check from index > 32 to index >= 32, and ensure index in rtl2832_pid_filter does not exceed 31; dev->filters is 32-bit and set_bit/clear_bit must operate only on indices 0 through 31.

Frequently Asked Questions
What access does an attacker need to exploit this issue?
The vulnerability has local attack vector, low attack complexity, low privileges required, and no user interaction required. Exploitation requires the ability to act locally on an affected system with low-level privileges.
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What is the underlying failure condition?
The rtl2832 PID filter accepts an index of 32 even though dev->filters is a 32-bit value with valid bit indices 0 through 31. Using index 32 causes set_bit or clear_bit to access beyond the intended bitmap.
