UBUNTU-CVE-2024-47709: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: bcm: Clear bo->bcmprocread after removeprocentry(). syzbot reported a warning in bcmrelease(). [0] The blamed change fixed another warning that is triggered when connect() is issued again for a socket whose connect()ed device has been unregistered. However, if the socket is just close()d without the 2nd connect(), the remaining bo->bcmprocread triggers unnecessary removeprocentry() in bcmrelease(). Let's clear bo->bcmprocread after removeprocentry() in bcmnotify(). Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are needed to trigger the issue?
A local actor needs to use a BCM CAN socket that was connected to a device which is then unregistered. The socket must then be closed without issuing a second connect() call.
What is the observable impact?
The condition causes bcm_release() to attempt an unnecessary remove_proc_entry(), producing a kernel warning in remove_proc_entry(). The supplied severity vector indicates low availability impact and no confidentiality or integrity impact.
Which Ubuntu kernel package variants are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-ibm, ubuntu/linux-oracle, ubuntu/linux-raspi, and ubuntu/linux-realtime.
