UBUNTU-CVE-2024-49895: Buffer Overflow
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: Fix index out of bounds in DCN30 degamma hardware format translation This commit addresses a potential index out of bounds issue in the cm3helpertranslatecurvetodegammahwformat function in the DCN30 color management module. The issue could occur when the index 'i' exceeds the number of transfer function points (TRANSFERFUNCPOINTS). The fix adds a check to ensure 'i' is within bounds before accessing the transfer function points. If 'i' is out of bounds, the function returns false to indicate an error. Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems running an affected Ubuntu Linux kernel variant listed for this CVE are potentially exposed when the AMD DCN30 display color-management code is used. The affected component is in the AMDGPU display driver path.
What access does an attacker need to exploit it?
The supplied vector indicates local attack access and low privileges are required, with no user interaction required. The vulnerability is an out-of-bounds access while translating degamma transfer-function points.
What is the impact if exploitation succeeds?
The provided severity vector indicates high impact to availability, while confidentiality and integrity impacts are listed as none. The issue is categorized as a buffer overflow.
What does the fix change?
The fix validates that the transfer-function index is within TRANSFER_FUNC_POINTS before accessing the red, green, or blue point arrays. If the index is out of bounds, the function returns false instead of performing the access.
