UBUNTU-CVE-2024-49966: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: cancel dqisyncwork before freeing oinfo ocfs2globalreadinfo() will initialize and schedule dqisyncwork at the end, if error occurs after successfully reading global quota, it will trigger the following warning with CONFIGDEBUGOBJECTS enabled: ODEBUG: free active (active state 0) object: 00000000d8b0ce28 object type: timerlist hint: qsyncworkfn+0x0/0x16c This reports that there is an active delayed work when freeing oinfo in error handling, so cancel dqisyncwork first. BTW, return status instead of -1 when .readfileinfo fails.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger this issue?
The issue is in OCFS2 global quota information handling when an error occurs after global quota data has been read and delayed quota synchronization work has been scheduled. Exploitation requires local access and low privileges; no user interaction is required.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The affected software list includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and the AWS, Azure, and GCP FIPS kernel variants.
What is the practical impact of the flaw?
The error-handling path can free quota information while delayed synchronization work remains active, producing an active-object warning when kernel debug object checks are enabled. The listed severity vector rates confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact as high.
