UBUNTU-CVE-2024-49969: Buffer Overflow
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: Fix index out of bounds in DCN30 color transformation This commit addresses a potential index out of bounds issue in the cm3helpertranslatecurvetohwformat function in the DCN30 color management module. The issue could occur when the index 'i' exceeds the number of transfer function points (TRANSFERFUNCPOINTS). The fix adds a check to ensure 'i' is within bounds before accessing the transfer function points. If 'i' is out of bounds, the function returns false to indicate an error. drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../display/dc/dcn30/dcn30cmcommon.c:180 cm3helpertranslatecurvetohwformat() error: buffer overflow 'outputtf->tfpts.red' 1025 <= s32max drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../display/dc/dcn30/dcn30cmcommon.c:181 cm3helpertranslatecurvetohwformat() error: buffer overflow 'outputtf->tfpts.green' 1025 <= s32max drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../display/dc/dcn30/dcn30cmcommon.c:182 cm3helpertranslatecurvetohwformat() error: buffer overflow 'outputtf->tfpts.blue' 1025 <= s32max

In cm3_helper_translate_curve_to_hw_format, check that index 'i' is within TRANSFER_FUNC_POINTS bounds before accessing output_tf->tf_pts.red, output_tf->tf_pts.green, or output_tf->tf_pts.blue; return false when 'i' is out of bounds.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does exploitation require remote access or user interaction?
No. The vector is local, and no user interaction is required. The attacker must have low-level privileges on the affected system.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The listed packages are linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-gke, linux-gkeop, linux-riscv, linux-fips, and linux-hwe-edge. The issue is in the AMD DCN30 display color-management code.
How can I determine whether the fix is present?
The remediation adds a bounds check in cm3_helper_translate_curve_to_hw_format so that an index beyond TRANSFER_FUNC_POINTS causes the function to return false before accessing the red, green, or blue transfer-function arrays. No fixed package versions are provided in the available data.
