Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages may be exposed if they use the affected i.MX JPEG media driver. Exploitation requires local access and low privileges.
What is the impact of successful exploitation?
A local low-privileged attacker can trigger an oops when the affected video device is opened, resulting in a denial of service. The provided severity vector indicates no confidentiality or integrity impact.
What condition triggers the failure?
The failure can occur when video_drvdata() is called from the device open file operation before the video driver data has been set. In that condition, video_drvdata() may return NULL.
