UBUNTU-CVE-2024-57841: XEE
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: fix memory leak in tcpconnrequest() If inetcskreqskqueuehashadd() return false, tcpconnrequest() will return without free the dst memory, which allocated in afops->routereq. Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-gkeop, ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, and ubuntu/linux-azure-fde.
What level of attacker access does the severity vector indicate?
The vector indicates network reachability, low attack complexity, no required privileges, and no user interaction. It also specifies that attack requirements are present, but the supplied data does not define those requirements.
What is the expected security impact?
The severity vector rates availability impact as high, while confidentiality and integrity impacts are listed as none. The underlying issue is an unreleased destination-memory allocation when a TCP connection-request queue hash operation fails.
How might an administrator identify the issue on a system?
The supplied diagnostic evidence is a kmemleak report showing an unreferenced 240-byte object and a call stack including dst_alloc, inet_csk_route_req, and tcp_conn_request. The allocation may occur in softirq context according to the provided report.
