UBUNTU-CVE-2024-57908: High severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: imu: kmx61: fix information leak in triggered buffer The 'buffer' local array is used to push data to user space from a triggered buffer, but it does not set values for inactive channels, as it only uses iioforeachactivechannel() to assign new values. Initialize the array to zero before using it to avoid pushing uninitialized information to userspace.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are in scope, including linux, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-gcp, and the corresponding FIPS variants. Exposure is tied to use of the KMX61 IMU driver's triggered buffer.
What access does an attacker need to exploit it?
The severity vector indicates local access and low privileges are required, with no user interaction. The flaw can expose uninitialized kernel information through data pushed to userspace.
Is this an integrity issue or a denial-of-service issue?
The provided severity vector indicates high confidentiality impact and high availability impact, while integrity impact is none.
What is the underlying remediation?
The resolved kernel change initializes the triggered-buffer local array to zero before channel values are assigned, preventing inactive channels from returning uninitialized data to userspace.
