UBUNTU-CVE-2025-21699: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gfs2: Truncate address space when flipping GFS2DIFJDATA flag Truncate an inode's address space when flipping the GFS2DIFJDATA flag: depending on that flag, the pages in the address space will either use buffer heads or iomapfoliostate structs, and we cannot mix the two.

Truncate an inode's address space whenever flipping the GFS2_DIF_JDATA flag, so pages do not mix buffer heads with iomap_folio_state structures.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems using the listed Ubuntu kernel packages may be affected when they use the GFS2 filesystem and perform operations that flip the GFS2_DIF_JDATA flag. The issue is in Linux kernel GFS2 handling rather than being described as affecting all filesystem types.
What level of access does an attacker need?
The supplied severity vector indicates local access and low privileges are required, with no user interaction required. It also indicates high impact to availability and low impact to integrity, while confidentiality impact is not indicated.
What condition triggers the vulnerability?
The vulnerable condition occurs when the GFS2_DIF_JDATA flag is flipped without truncating the inode address space. Existing pages can then use buffer heads while others use iomap_folio_state structures, creating an unsafe mix.
