UBUNTU-CVE-2025-23160: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: mediatek: vcodec: Fix a resource leak related to the scp device in FW initialization On Mediatek devices with a system companion processor (SCP) the mtkscp structure has to be removed explicitly to avoid a resource leak. Free the structure in case the allocation of the firmware structure fails during the firmware initialization.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most likely to be exposed?
The issue applies to the listed Ubuntu kernel package families when running on MediaTek devices that use a system companion processor (SCP). The affected package families are linux-azure-fde, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-gke, linux-gkeop, linux-riscv, and linux-hwe-edge.
What level of access does an attacker need?
Exploitation requires local access and low privileges. No user interaction is required.
What is the expected security impact?
The reported impact is on availability; the CVSS vector indicates no confidentiality or integrity impact. The issue can result in a resource leak during firmware initialization when firmware-structure allocation fails.
