UBUNTU-CVE-2026-119418: SQL Injection

Published Nov 3, 2026
·
Updated

CakePHP through 5.4.3 contains an sql injection vulnerability that allows attackers to inject SQL by supplying unvalidated frame offsets and directions to WindowExpression::range() and frame(). Attackers can pass crafted values through applications forwarding user input into the OVER clause to execute SQL with the database connection's privileges.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which applications are exposed to this issue?

Applications using CakePHP through 5.4.3 are exposed if they pass attacker-controlled input into WindowExpression::range() or frame(), particularly values used as window-frame offsets or directions in an OVER clause. The issue is in application use of these APIs, not merely the presence of a database connection.

2

What does an attacker need to exploit it?

An attacker must be able to supply crafted values that the application forwards without validation as frame offsets or directions to WindowExpression::range() or frame(). No authentication or user interaction is required according to the supplied severity vector.

3

What is the likely impact if exploitation succeeds?

Successful exploitation can execute injected SQL using the privileges of the application's database connection. The reported impact includes high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.

4

How can teams identify potentially affected code before a patch is available?

Review code paths that build SQL window expressions and look for calls to WindowExpression::range() or frame() whose offset or direction arguments originate from request parameters or other untrusted input. Prioritize paths that construct OVER clauses dynamically.

5

What mitigation is supported by the available information if patching is delayed?

Do not forward unvalidated user input to WindowExpression::range() or frame(). Restrict frame offsets and directions to validated, application-defined values before constructing the window expression.
