UBUNTU-CVE-2026-120063: Medium severity ubuntu/psqlodbc vulnerability
When psqlODBC quotes a schema or table name into a 128-byte stack buffer, its length check lets it write up to two bytes past the end of the buffer for a long name. The names come from the application's SQL text: the table of a statement the driver parses to describe its columns, and the target of the last INSERT when the driver rewrites SELECT @@IDENTITY. In the @@IDENTITY rewrite, a column name sent by the server can also write one byte past the buffer. The bytes written past the buffer are a double quote and a NUL. An application that forwards untrusted SQL text to the driver exposes its process to stack corruption. Versions before psqlODBC 18.00.0006 are affected.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which applications are most exposed to this issue?
Applications using psqlODBC that pass untrusted SQL text to the driver are exposed, because attacker-controlled table or schema names can reach the vulnerable quoting logic. The affected paths include statement parsing for column description and rewriting of SELECT @@IDENTITY after an INSERT.
What access does an attacker need to exploit this?
An attacker needs the ability to cause the application to send suitably long SQL identifiers through psqlODBC. For the @@IDENTITY rewrite path, a server-supplied column name can also trigger a one-byte overflow.
What is the potential impact?
The flaw can corrupt the application's stack. The documented out-of-bounds bytes are a double quote and a NUL, and the vulnerability is rated medium with integrity and availability impact.
Which versions should be remediated?
psqlODBC versions before 18.00.0006 are affected. Update to 18.00.0006 or later where available.
