UBUNTU-CVE-2026-43219: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: cpswnew: Fix potential unregister of netdev that has not been registered yet If an error occurs during registernetdev() for the first MAC in cpswregisterports(), even though cpsw->slaves[0].ndev is set to NULL, cpsw->slaves[1].ndev would remain unchanged. This could later cause cpswunregisterports() to attempt unregistering the second MAC. To address this, add a check for ndev->regstate before calling unregisternetdev(). With this change, setting cpsw->slaves[i].ndev to NULL becomes unnecessary and can be removed accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger this issue?
The issue requires register_netdev() to fail while cpsw_register_ports() is registering the first MAC. A later cleanup path must then call cpsw_unregister_ports(), which could attempt to unregister the second MAC even though it was not registered.
What is the practical impact?
The affected cleanup path can attempt to unregister a network device that has not been registered. The provided severity vector indicates local access and low privileges are required, with availability impact but no stated confidentiality or integrity impact.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-gke, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
