UBUNTU-CVE-2026-52928: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: afunix: Reject SIOCATMARK on non-stream sockets SIOCATMARK reports whether the receive queue is at the urgent mark for MSGOOB. In AFUNIX, MSGOOB is supported only for SOCKSTREAM sockets. SOCKDGRAM and SOCKSEQPACKET reject MSGOOB in sendmsg() and recvmsg(), so they should not support SIOCATMARK either. Return -EOPNOTSUPP for non-stream sockets before checking the receive queue.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems and socket types are relevant to this issue?
The issue applies to the listed Ubuntu Linux kernel packages. It concerns AF_UNIX SOCK_DGRAM and SOCK_SEQPACKET sockets when SIOCATMARK is used; AF_UNIX MSG_OOB support is limited to SOCK_STREAM sockets.
What access does an attacker need?
The severity vector indicates local access with low privileges is required. No user interaction is required.
What behavior should patched kernels provide?
For non-stream AF_UNIX sockets, SIOCATMARK should return -EOPNOTSUPP before inspecting the receive queue. SOCK_DGRAM and SOCK_SEQPACKET already reject MSG_OOB through sendmsg() and recvmsg().
