UBUNTU-CVE-2026-53135: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: Fix NULL deref and buffer over-read in SDP debugfs [Why & How] dpsdpmessagedebugfswrite() dereferences connector->base.state->crtc without checking for NULL. A connector can be connected but not bound to any CRTC (e.g. after hot-plug before the next atomic commit), causing a kernel crash when writing to the sdpmessage debugfs node. The function also ignores the user-provided size argument and always passes 36 bytes to copyfromuser(), reading past the user buffer when size < 36. Fix both issues by: - Returning -ENODEV when connector->base.state or state->crtc is NULL - Clamping writesize to min(size, sizeof(data)) (cherry picked from commit 6ab4c36a522842ff70474a1c0af2e40e50fc8300)

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are in scope?
The affected software list includes Ubuntu linux, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-azure-fde, linux-gcp, linux-oracle, linux-raspi, and linux-realtime kernel packages. The vulnerable path is in the AMD display driver's SDP debugfs write handler.
What does an attacker need to do to trigger the issue?
An attacker needs local privileges and the ability to write to the SDP message debugfs node. A crash can occur when a connected connector has no bound CRTC, such as after hot-plugging before the next atomic commit; supplying fewer than 36 bytes also causes the handler to read beyond the supplied user buffer.
Can the supplied information identify whether an installed kernel is fixed?
No. The data identifies the fix behavior and upstream commits, but does not provide Ubuntu package versions or release status information that would distinguish fixed from vulnerable installations.
