UBUNTU-CVE-2026-53226: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpio: rockchip: fix generic IRQ chip leak on remove The driver allocates domain generic chips using irqallocdomaingenericchips() during probe. However, on driver remove/teardown, the generic chips are not automatically freed when the IRQ domain is removed because the domain flags do not include IRQDOMAINFLAGDESTROYGC. This causes both the domain generic chips structure and the associated generic chips to be leaked. Additionally, the generic chips remain on the global gclist and may later be visited by generic IRQ chip suspend, resume, or shutdown callbacks after the GPIO bank has been removed, potentially resulting in a use-after-free and kernel crash. Fix the resource leak by explicitly calling irqdomainremovegenericchips() before removing the IRQ domain in rockchipgpioremove().

In rockchip_gpio_remove(), explicitly call irq_domain_remove_generic_chips() before removing the IRQ domain to free the generic IRQ chips and prevent use-after-free during teardown.

Frequently Asked Questions
What access does an attacker need to exploit this issue?
The vulnerability is rated with local attack vector and low privileges required. No user interaction is required.
Which systems are most relevant to triage?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages and using the Rockchip GPIO driver are relevant. The issue is associated with removal or teardown of a Rockchip GPIO bank.
What is the likely operational impact?
Generic IRQ chip objects can remain reachable after the GPIO bank has been removed and may be accessed during later suspend, resume, or shutdown callbacks. This can lead to a use-after-free and kernel crash, with availability impact rated high.
