UBUNTU-CVE-2026-63908: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: atmelmxtts - fix boundary check in mxtpreparecfgmem When a configuration file provides an object size that is larger than the driver's known mxtobjsize(object), the driver intends to discard the extra bytes. The loop iterates using for (i = 0; i < size; i++). Inside the loop, the condition to skip processing extra bytes is: if (i > mxtobjsize(object)) continue; Since i is a 0-based index, the valid indices for the object are 0 through mxtobjsize(object) - 1. When i == mxtobjsize(object), the condition evaluates to false, and the code processes the byte instead of discarding it. This causes the code to calculate byteoffset = reg + i - cfg->startofs and writes the byte there, overwriting exactly one byte of the adjacent instance or object. Update the boundary check to skip extra bytes correctly by using >=.

Change the extra-byte skip condition from `if (i > mxt_obj_size(object))` to `if (i >= mxt_obj_size(object))` so bytes at indices equal to or beyond the known object size are discarded.
Linux kernel atmel_mxt_ts driver mxt_prepare_cfg_mem boundary check = i >= mxt_obj_size(object)

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes Ubuntu linux, linux-fips, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, and linux-gcp-fips.
What condition triggers the out-of-bounds write?
The issue is triggered when a configuration file specifies an object size larger than the driver's known size for that object. The prior boundary check processes one extra byte at the exact size boundary, overwriting one byte in an adjacent instance or object.
How can I assess whether a configuration file could trigger this issue?
Review configuration files supplied to the driver for object sizes exceeding the corresponding driver-known object size. An oversized object definition is the condition described for reaching the faulty boundary handling.
