UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64012: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: schsfb: Replace direct dequeue call with peek and qdiscdequeuepeeked When sfb has children (eg qfq qdisc) whose peek() callback is qdiscpeekdequeued(), we could get a kernel panic. When the parent of such qdiscs (eg illustrated in patch #3 as tbf) wants to retrieve an skb from its child (sfb in this case), it will do the following: 1a. do a peek() - and when sensing there's an skb the child can offer, then - the child in this case(sfb) calls its child's (qfq) peek. qfq does the right thing and will return the gsoskb queue packet. Note: if there wasnt a gsoskb entry then qfq will store it there. 1b. invoke a dequeue() on the child (sfb). And herein lies the problem. - sfb will call the child's dequeue() which will essentially just try to grab something of qfq's queue. This patchset fixes that issue by changing #1b to use qdiscdequeuepeeked() method instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
What access and configuration are required to trigger this issue?
The vulnerability is locally exploitable by an attacker with low privileges. The affected traffic-control hierarchy involves sch_sfb with child qdiscs whose peek callback is qdisc_peek_dequeued(), such as qfq; the example also includes a parent qdisc such as tbf.
What is the expected security impact?
Triggering the flaw can cause a kernel panic, resulting in a denial of service. The provided severity vector indicates no confidentiality or integrity impact.
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed package families are linux, linux-fips, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-gcp-fips.
