UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64240: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: rc: igorplugusb: fix control request setup packet Commit eac69475b01f ("media: rc: igorplugusb: heed coherency rules") changed the control request storage from an embedded struct to an allocated pointer so it can obey DMA coherency rules. However, the driver still passes &ir->request to usbfillcontrolurb(). That points the URB setup packet at the pointer field itself rather than at the allocated struct usbctrlrequest. USB core then interprets pointer bytes as the setup packet. This can produce an invalid bRequestType and trigger the control direction warning reported by syzbot: usb 2-1: BOGUS control dir, pipe 80003580 doesn't match bRequestType 0 Pass ir->request itself as the setup packet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected Ubuntu kernel packages listed are linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-gcp, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, linux-azure, linux-azure-fde, and linux-gkeop. The issue is in the igorplugusb media remote-control driver.
What access does an attacker need to trigger the issue?
The supplied severity vector indicates local access and low privileges are required, with no user interaction required. The impact is availability only; confidentiality and integrity impacts are listed as none.
What is the observable symptom of an affected system?
An affected driver can pass pointer bytes to USB core as a control setup packet, resulting in an invalid bRequestType. This may produce a warning such as "BOGUS control dir" with a message that the USB pipe does not match bRequestType.
