UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64305: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: qat - protect service table iterations with servicelock The servicetable list is protected by servicelock when entries are added or removed (in adfserviceadd() and adfserviceremove()), but several functions iterate over the list without holding this lock. A concurrent adfserviceregister() or adfserviceunregister() call could modify the list during traversal, leading to list corruption or a use-after-free. Fix this by holding servicelock across all listforeachentry() iterations of servicetable in adfdevinit(), adfdevstart(), adfdevstop(), adfdevshutdown(), adfdevrestartingnotify(), adfdevrestartednotify(), and adferrornotifier(). The lock ordering is safe: callers of the static helpers (adfdevup() and adfdevdown()) acquire statelock before servicelock, and no eventhld callback or servicelock holder ever acquires statelock in the reverse order.

Protect every list_for_each_entry() traversal of service_table by holding service_lock across the iteration in adf_dev_init(), adf_dev_start(), adf_dev_stop(), adf_dev_shutdown(), adf_dev_restarting_notify(), adf_dev_restarted_notify(), and adf_error_notifier(); preserve the existing lock ordering of state_lock before service_lock.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to exploit this issue?
An attacker needs local access and low privileges. Exploitation requires concurrent registration or unregistration of QAT services while affected kernel code is traversing the service table.
What is the likely impact if exploitation succeeds?
Concurrent modification of the service table can cause list corruption or a use-after-free. The reported impact includes high confidentiality, integrity, and availability consequences.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The advisory identifies ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and their listed FIPS variants: ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
How does the fix address the race condition?
The fix holds service_lock during every listed traversal of service_table, preventing service registration or unregistration from modifying the list concurrently. The stated lock ordering acquires state_lock before service_lock and avoids reverse acquisition.
