UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64358: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: mtk-jpeg: cancel workqueue on release for supported platforms only Since a recent fix the mtkjpegrelease function cancels any pending or running work present in the driver workqueue using cancelworksync function. Currently, only the multicore based variants use this workqueue and they have the jpegworker platform data field initialized with a workqueue callback function. For the others, this field value remain NULL by default. The cancelworksync function is unconditionally called in mtkjpegrelease function, even for the variants that do not use the workqueue. This call generates a WARNON print in flushwork because the workqueue callback function presence check fails in flushwork function (used by cancelworksync). So, to avoid these warnings, call cancelworksync only if a workqueue callback is defined in platform data.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The issue applies to the listed Ubuntu kernel packages: linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, and linux-gkeop. It occurs on MediaTek JPEG driver platform variants that do not define a workqueue callback.
What triggers the warning condition?
A local user must cause the MediaTek JPEG driver's release path to run on an affected platform variant. The driver unconditionally calls cancel_work_sync even though that variant does not use the workqueue and its callback is NULL, causing a WARN_ON in __flush_work.
What is the practical impact?
The reported impact is a kernel warning generated during driver release. The provided severity vector indicates local access and low privileges are required, with availability impact rated high and no confidentiality or integrity impact.
How does the fix prevent the issue?
The fix calls cancel_work_sync only when the platform data defines a workqueue callback. This avoids attempting to cancel work for variants that do not use the driver workqueue.
