UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64461: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: PCI: mediatek: Fix IRQ domain leak when port fails to enable When mtkpcieenableport() fails, mtkpcieportfree() removes the port from pcie->ports and frees the port structure. However, the IRQ domains set up earlier by mtkpcieinitirqdomain() are never freed. Fix this by refactoring mtkpcieirqteardown() into a per-port helper, mtkpcieirqteardownport(), and calling it from mtkpciesetup() when mtkpcieenableport() fails. Since the IRQ teardown must only happen in the probe error path (during resume, child devices may have active MSI mappings and the NOIRQ context prohibits sleeping locks), mtkpcieenableport() is changed to return an error code so callers can distinguish the two paths and act accordingly. This issue was reported by Sashiko while reviewing the EcoNet EN7528 SoC support series.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most likely affected by this issue?
The issue concerns the Linux kernel MediaTek PCI driver and is relevant to systems using that driver with MediaTek PCI hardware. The affected Ubuntu kernel package list includes linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-oracle.
What condition triggers the resource leak?
The leak occurs when mtk_pcie_enable_port() fails after mtk_pcie_init_irq_domain() has already created IRQ domains. The failed-port cleanup frees the port structure but, before the fix, did not free those IRQ domains.
Is this an issue during resume as well as initial device probing?
The described IRQ teardown is intended only for the probe error path. During resume, child devices may have active MSI mappings, and the NOIRQ context cannot use the sleeping locks needed for this teardown.
How does the fix address the problem?
The fix moves IRQ cleanup into a per-port helper, mtk_pcie_irq_teardown_port(), and invokes it when port enablement fails during setup. It also changes mtk_pcie_enable_port() to return an error code so callers can distinguish probe failure from resume handling.
