UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64480: Null Pointer Dereference
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: ice1712: check sndctlnew1() return value sndctlnew1() can return NULL when memory allocation fails. The ice1712 driver calls sndctlnew1() without checking the return value before dereferencing the pointer in multiple places (ice1712.c, ice1724.c, aureon.c), which can lead to NULL pointer dereferences. Add NULL checks after sndctlnew1() calls and return -ENOMEM if any fails.

Add NULL checks after every snd_ctl_new1() call in ice1712.c, ice1724.c, and aureon.c, and return -ENOMEM if any call returns NULL before dereferencing the pointer.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are needed to trigger this issue?
The affected ALSA ice1712 driver must attempt to create controls while memory allocation fails. In that condition, snd_ctl_new1() can return NULL and the driver may dereference the NULL pointer.
What is the expected impact if the issue is triggered?
The described result is a NULL pointer dereference in the kernel driver. The fix changes the affected paths to detect the failed allocation and return -ENOMEM instead.
Which driver source areas are identified as affected?
The issue is described in multiple ice1712 driver locations: ice1712.c, ice1724.c, and aureon.c.
