UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64489: Null Pointer Dereference
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: ymfpci: check sndctlnew1() return value sndctlnew1() can return NULL when memory allocation fails. sndymfpcicreatespdifcontrols() does not check the return value before dereferencing kctl->id.device, which can lead to a NULL pointer dereference. Add NULL checks after sndctlnew1() calls and return -ENOMEM if any fails.

Add NULL checks after every snd_ctl_new1() call in snd_ymfpci_create_spdif_controls() and return -ENOMEM if any call fails before dereferencing kctl->id.device.

Frequently Asked Questions
What condition is required to trigger the flaw?
An allocation performed by snd_ctl_new1() must fail while SPDIF controls are being created by the ymfpci ALSA driver. The vulnerable code then dereferences the resulting NULL control pointer.
What is the expected impact if the condition occurs?
The failure can cause a NULL pointer dereference in the kernel. The provided information does not establish impacts beyond that crash condition.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What does the fix do?
The fix checks each snd_ctl_new1() return value before accessing the control structure. If allocation fails, SPDIF control creation returns -ENOMEM instead of dereferencing a NULL pointer.
