UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64495: Buffer Overflow
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: gyro: bmg160: bail out when bandwidth/filter is not in table bmg160getfilter() walks bmg160sampfreqtable[] looking for the entry matching the bwbits value read from the chip: for (i = 0; i < ARRAYSIZE(bmg160sampfreqtable); ++i) { if (bmg160sampfreqtable[i].bwbits == bwbits) break; } val = bmg160sampfreqtable[i].filter; If no entry matches, i ends up equal to the array size and the next line reads one slot past the end. bmg160setfilter() has the same shape, driven by 'val' instead of bwbits. smatch flags both: drivers/iio/gyro/bmg160core.c:204 bmg160getfilter() error: buffer overflow 'bmg160sampfreqtable' 7 <= 7 drivers/iio/gyro/bmg160core.c:222 bmg160setfilter() error: buffer overflow 'bmg160sampfreqtable' 7 <= 7 Return -EINVAL when no entry matches. The setfilter() path is reachable from userspace via the sysfs inanglvelfilterlowpass3dbfrequency interface, so userspace can trivially trigger the out-of-bounds read with a value that is not in bmg160sampfreqtable[].filter.

Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
What access does an attacker need to trigger the vulnerable path?
The set_filter() path is reachable from userspace through the sysfs in_anglvel_filter_low_pass_3db_frequency interface. A user who can write an unsupported filter value through that interface can trivially trigger the out-of-bounds read.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What input causes the out-of-bounds read?
The issue occurs when the requested filter value does not match an entry in bmg160_samp_freq_table[].filter. The lookup reaches the end of the table and then reads one slot beyond it; the fix returns -EINVAL instead.
