UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64500: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: adc: lpc32xx: Initialize completion before requesting IRQ In the report from Jaeyoung Chung: "lpc32xxadcprobe() in drivers/iio/adc/lpc32xxadc.c registers its interrupt handler with devmrequestirq() before it initializes st->completion with initcompletion(). If an interrupt arrives after devmrequestirq() and before initcompletion(), the handler calls complete() on an uninitialized completion, causing a kernel panic. The probe path, in lpc32xxadcprobe(): iodev = devmiiodevicealloc(&pdev->dev, sizeof(st)); / st kzalloc-zeroed / ... retval = devmrequestirq(&pdev->dev, irq, lpc32xxadcisr, 0, LPC32XXADNAME, st); / register handler / ... initcompletion(&st->completion); / initialize completion / lpc32xxadcisr() calls complete(): complete(&st->completion); If the device raises an interrupt before initcompletion() runs, complete() acquires the uninitialized wait.lock and walks the zeroed tasklist in swakeuplocked(). The zeroed tasklist makes listempty() return false, so swakeuplocked() dereferences a NULL list entry, triggering a KASAN wild-memory-access." Fix the chance of a spurious IRQ causing an uninitialized pointer dereference by moving initcompletion() above devmrequestirq().

In lpc32xx_adc_probe(), call init_completion(&st->completion) before devm_request_irq() registers lpc32xx_adc_isr(), so the completion is initialized before any interrupt can invoke complete().
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required for the failure to occur?
The LPC32xx ADC driver's interrupt handler must be registered, and the ADC device must raise an interrupt before the driver's completion object is initialized. This race occurs during the driver's probe path.
What is the likely impact if the race is triggered?
The interrupt handler can call complete() on an uninitialized completion object, leading to a NULL list-entry dereference. The reported outcome is a kernel panic, with KASAN reporting a wild-memory-access.
Which deployments are most relevant to triage?
The issue is relevant where the LPC32xx ADC driver is being probed and its associated hardware can generate an interrupt during that initialization window. The affected software listings include Ubuntu Linux kernel packages for standard, Azure, AWS FIPS, GCP, Oracle, and FIPS variants.
