UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64503: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: accel: kxsd9: fix runtime PM imbalance on writeraw() error kxsd9writeraw() takes a runtime PM reference with pmruntimegetsync() but returns -EINVAL directly when a scale with a non-zero integer part is requested, skipping the matching pmruntimeputautosuspend(). This leaks a runtime PM usage-counter reference on every such write, after which the device can no longer autosuspend. Set the error code and fall through to the existing put instead of returning early.

Frequently Asked Questions
What systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems using the kxsd9 IIO accelerometer driver are exposed when software performs a scale write through the driver's write_raw() path. The affected Ubuntu kernel package families listed are linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-oracle.
What action triggers the problem?
A request to set a scale value with a non-zero integer part triggers the error path. The driver returns -EINVAL but fails to release the runtime PM reference it acquired first.
What is the operational impact if the issue is triggered repeatedly?
Each triggering write leaks one runtime PM usage-counter reference. Once this occurs, the device can no longer autosuspend, which can prevent expected runtime power management behavior.
