UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64535: Critical severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nvmet-tcp: Fix potential UAF when ddgst mismatch Shivam Kumar found via vulnerability testing: When data digest is enabled on an NVMe/TCP connection and a digest mismatch occurs on a non-final H2CDATA PDU during an R2T-based data transfer, the digest error handler in nvmettcptryrecvddgst() calls nvmetrequninit() — which performs percpurefput() on the submission queue — but does NOT mark the command as completed. It does not set cqe->status, does not modify rbytesdone, and does not clear any flag. When the subsequent fatal error triggers queue teardown, nvmettcpuninitdataincmds() iterates all commands, checks nvmettcpneeddatain() for each one, and finds that the already-uninited command still appears to need data (because rbytesdone < transferlen and cqe->status == 0). It therefore calls nvmetrequninit() a second time on the same command — a double percpurefput against a single percpurefget.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems running the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are exposed when they provide NVMe/TCP and have data digest enabled on an NVMe/TCP connection. The affected packages listed are linux, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-riscv, and linux-gkeop.
What must an attacker do to trigger the flaw?
An attacker must be able to interact with an NVMe/TCP connection using data digest and cause a digest mismatch in a non-final H2C_DATA PDU during an R2T-based data transfer. No privileges or user interaction are indicated by the supplied severity vector.
What is the impact of a successful trigger?
The digest-error and queue-teardown paths can uninitialize the same command twice, causing a double percpu_ref_put against one percpu_ref_get. The supplied severity data rates the issue critical with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
