UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64546: High severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/edid: fix OOB read in drmparsetiledblock() drmparsetiledblock() casts the DisplayID block to a struct displayidtiledblock and reads the full fixed layout up to tile->topologyid[7] without checking block->numbytes. The DisplayID iterator only validates the declared payload length, so a crafted EDID can advertise a tiled-display block (tag DATABLOCKTILEDDISPLAY, or DATABLOCK2TILEDDISPLAYTOPOLOGY for v2.0) with a small numbytes at the end of a DisplayID extension. The read then runs past the end of the exact-sized kmemdup()'d EDID allocation, a heap out-of-bounds read. Reject blocks shorter than the spec's 22-byte tiled payload before reading the fixed struct, as drmparsevesamsodata() already does. In drm_parse_tiled_block(), reject DisplayID tiled-display blocks with num_bytes less than the spec's 22-byte tiled payload before casting the block to struct displayid_tiled_block or reading its fixed layout; apply this to DATA_BLOCK_TILED_DISPLAY and DATA_BLOCK_2_TILED_DISPLAY_TOPOLOGY for v2.0.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems using the affected Ubuntu Linux kernel packages are exposed when the kernel processes a crafted EDID containing a truncated DisplayID tiled-display block. The affected package list includes ubuntu/linux and the AWS, Azure, GCP, FIPS, AWS FIPS, Azure FIPS, and GCP FIPS kernel variants.
What does an attacker need to exploit it?
An attacker needs local access and low privileges, as reflected by the AV:L and PR:L vector. Exploitation requires causing the kernel DRM EDID handling path to parse a crafted EDID with a short tiled-display payload.
What happens when the vulnerable parsing path is reached?
The kernel can read beyond the end of the allocated EDID buffer, resulting in a heap out-of-bounds read. The reported impact includes high confidentiality and availability impact.
What is the relevant mitigation if an update cannot be applied immediately?
Avoid processing untrusted or crafted EDID data that advertises a tiled-display DisplayID block with a truncated payload. The vulnerable condition is specifically a tiled-display block shorter than the required 22-byte payload.
