UBUNTU-CVE-2026-64568: Double Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: fix unsolbcastproberesp double free on alloc failure ieee80211setunsolbcastproberesp() calls kfreercu() on the old template before allocating the replacement. If the kzalloc() then fails, it returns -ENOMEM while link->u.ap.unsolbcastproberesp still points at the object already queued for freeing. A later update or AP teardown re-queues that same rcuhead; the second free is caught by KASAN when the RCU sheaf is processed in softirq: BUG: KASAN: double-free in rcufreesheaf (mm/slub.c:5850) Free of addr ffff88800d06f300 by task exploit/145 ... rcufreesheafprepare (mm/slub.c:2634 mm/slub.c:2940) rcufreesheaf (mm/slub.c:5850) rcucore (kernel/rcu/tree.c:2617 kernel/rcu/tree.c:2869) handlesoftirqs (kernel/softirq.c:622) The buggy address belongs to the cache kmalloc-128 of size 128 Queue the old object for kfreercu() only after the new one is published, matching ieee80211setproberesp() and ieee80211sets1gshortbeacon().

In ieee80211_set_unsol_bcast_probe_resp(), allocate and publish the replacement object before queueing the old object for kfree_rcu(), so allocation failure does not leave the pointer referencing an object already queued for freeing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger the double free?
A local attacker needs privileges and must cause allocation of a replacement unsolicited broadcast probe-response template to fail after an existing template has been queued for RCU freeing. A later template update or AP teardown can then queue the same object for freeing again.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What is the likely impact if the issue is triggered?
The issue is a double free in the kernel's mac80211 code. The provided severity vector indicates high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact, and the reported failure is detected by KASAN during RCU processing in softirq context.
