UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68097: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: validate ACE size against SID sub-authorities setntacldacl() validates sid.numsubauth before copying an ACE, but does not verify that the declared ACE size contains all sub-authorities described by that field. An undersized ACE can therefore be copied and later make the POSIX ACL deduplication walk inspect data beyond the copied ACE boundary. The existing initial bound check is also too small. It only ensures that the ACE size field is accessible before setntacldacl() reads sid.numsubauth farther into the input buffer. Require enough input for the fixed SID header before accessing numsubauth, reject ACEs smaller than that header, and skip ACEs whose declared size cannot contain the complete SID. This makes the validation consistent with the other ACE walk paths.

Frequently Asked Questions
What access does an attacker need to exploit this issue?
The vulnerability is network-reachable and requires low privileges. It does not require user interaction.
What malformed input is involved?
An attacker would need to provide an ACE whose declared size is too small to contain all SID sub-authorities indicated by its num_subauth field. This can cause the later POSIX ACL deduplication walk to inspect data beyond the copied ACE boundary.
Which Ubuntu kernel package variants are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
Is a fixed package version or workaround provided?
No fixed Ubuntu package version or temporary workaround is provided in the supplied information.
