UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68153: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: libceph: remove debugfs files before client teardown cephdestroyclient() tears down the monitor client before removing the per-client debugfs files. A concurrent read of the monmap debugfs file can enter monmapshow() after cephmoncstop() has freed monc->monmap, triggering a use-after-free. Remove the debugfs files before stopping the OSD and monitor clients. debugfsremove() drains active handlers and prevents new accesses, so the debugfs callbacks can no longer race the rest of client teardown.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages may be exposed when the Ceph client is in use and its per-client debugfs files are accessible. The race involves reading the Ceph monitor-map debugfs file while the Ceph client is being torn down.
What access does an attacker need to trigger the flaw?
The supplied vector indicates local access with low privileges and no user interaction is required. Exploitation requires a concurrent read of the monmap debugfs file during Ceph client teardown.
What is the impact if the race is triggered?
A debugfs read can access monc->monmap after it has been freed, causing a use-after-free. The severity vector rates confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact as high.
What change resolves the race?
The fix removes the per-client debugfs files before stopping the OSD and monitor clients. Removing the files drains active handlers and prevents new debugfs callbacks from racing with client teardown.
