UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68154: Critical severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: libceph: reject zero bucket types in crushdecode CRUSH bucket type 0 is reserved for devices. The mapper relies on that invariant and uses type 0 to identify leaf devices. If crushdecode() accepts a bucket with type 0, a malformed CRUSH map can make the mapper treat a negative bucket ID as a device and pass it to isout(), which then indexes the OSD weight array with a negative value. Reject zero bucket types while decoding the CRUSH map so the invalid state never reaches the mapper.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu systems are in scope?
The affected software list includes Ubuntu linux, linux-fips, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-gcp, and the AWS, Azure, and GCP FIPS kernel variants. The issue is in the kernel's libceph CRUSH map decoding path.
What condition is required to trigger the flaw?
A malformed CRUSH map containing a bucket with type 0 must be accepted by crush_decode(). Type 0 is reserved for devices; accepting it can cause a negative bucket ID to be handled as a device and used as a negative index into the OSD weight array.
What is the remediation described by the fix?
The fix rejects CRUSH buckets whose type is zero during CRUSH map decoding. This prevents the invalid bucket state from reaching the mapper.
