UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68181: Use After Free

Published Aug 10, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mei: bus: access meidevice under devicelock on cleanup Fix couple of problems in meiclbusdevrelease(): meiclflushqueues() is running without lock. bus->filelist access after meidevbusput(bus) can become a use-after-free if this was the last reference to bus. Protect queues cleanup and WARN traversal by device lock there to avoid the concurrent access problems. Move WARN traversal before meidevbusput(bus). This file uses bus variable name for meidevice, adjust code of meiclbusdevrelease() to use bus variable too.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which Ubuntu kernel package families should be reviewed for exposure?

The affected software list includes ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop. No affected version ranges are provided.

2

What should a backport or fix implementation preserve?

Cleanup queue handling and the WARN traversal must be protected by the device lock. The WARN traversal must also occur before mei_dev_bus_put(bus), preventing access to bus after the final reference may have been released.
