UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68203: Low severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: vivid: fix cleanup bugs in vividinit() When platformdeviceregister() fails in vividinit(), the embedded struct device in vividpdev has already been initialized by deviceinitialize(), but the failure path jumps to freeoutputstrings without dropping the device reference for the current platform device: vividinit() -> platformdeviceregister(&vividpdev) -> deviceinitialize(&vividpdev.dev) -> setuppdevdmamasks(&vividpdev) -> platformdeviceadd(&vividpdev) This leads to a reference leak when platformdeviceregister() fails. Fix this by calling platformdeviceput() before jumping to the common cleanup path. Also, the unregdriver label incorrectly calls platformdriverregister() instead of platformdriverunregister(), which breaks cleanup when workqueue creation fails after successful driver registration. Fix that as well. The reference leak was identified by a static analysis tool I developed and confirmed by manual review. The incorrect cleanup call was found during code inspection.

In vivid_init(), call platform_device_put() before jumping to the common cleanup path when platform_device_register() fails, releasing the initialized device reference.
- Compensating control
Correct the unreg_driver cleanup path to call platform_driver_unregister() instead of platform_driver_register(), so cleanup works when workqueue creation fails after successful driver registration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are in scope?
The listed affected packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What failure conditions trigger the cleanup defects?
One defect occurs when platform_device_register() fails during vivid_init(), causing a device reference leak. The other occurs when workqueue creation fails after driver registration, where the cleanup path uses platform_driver_register() rather than unregistering the driver.
