UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68215: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: radio-si476x: Unregister v4l2device on probe failure si476xradioprobe() registers radio->v4l2dev before allocating the V4L2 controls and before registering the video device. If any of those later steps fails, probe returns through the exit label after freeing only the control handler. A failed probe does not call si476xradioremove(), so the v4l2deviceunregister() there is not reached. This leaves the parent device reference taken by v4l2deviceregister() behind on the error path. Unregister the V4L2 device in the probe error path after freeing the controls.

In si476x_radio_probe()'s error path, call v4l2_device_unregister() after freeing the control handler to unregister the V4L2 device when probe fails.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
When can this issue be triggered?
It is triggered when the si476x radio driver's probe routine fails after registering its V4L2 device but before completing V4L2 control allocation or video-device registration.
What is the impact of a failed probe?
The failed initialization path leaves a parent-device reference acquired by v4l2_device_register() unreleased. The normal driver removal path is not invoked for a failed probe, so it does not perform the missing unregister operation.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
