UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68220: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: nxp: imx8-isi: Add missing v4l2subdevcleanup() in crossbar and pipe Both mxcisicrossbarinit() and mxcisipipeinit() call v4l2subdevinitfinalize() which allocates the subdev active state, but neither mxcisicrossbarcleanup() nor mxcisipipecleanup() calls v4l2subdevcleanup() to free it. This causes a memory leak on every rmmod, reported by kmemleak: unreferenced object 0xffff0000d06fc800 (size 192): comm "(udev-worker)", pid 254, jiffies 4294913455 backtrace (crc 36eeae58): kmemleakalloc+0x34/0x40 kvmallocnodenoprof+0x5f8/0x7d8 v4l2subdevstatealloc+0x1fc/0x30c v4l2subdevinitfinalize+0x178/0x368 Add the missing v4l2subdevcleanup() calls before mediaentitycleanup() in both crossbar and pipe cleanup paths.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are relevant only when using the NXP i.MX8 ISI media driver components affected by the crossbar or pipe cleanup paths. The leak occurs when those driver components are unloaded.
What does an attacker need to do to trigger the problem?
The described condition is triggered by unloading the affected module or driver components, causing allocated V4L2 subdevice active-state memory not to be freed. The provided information does not describe a remote trigger or any required attacker privileges.
How can I determine whether a system is affected in practice?
The report identifies kmemleak findings after module removal, with allocations originating from v4l2_subdev_init_finalize(). A system using the affected driver can be checked for memory-leak reports after unloading it.
What can be done if an update cannot be applied immediately?
Avoid repeatedly unloading and reloading the affected i.MX8 ISI media driver components, since the leak is reported on every unload. Keeping the component loaded avoids repeatedly triggering the described cleanup-path leak.
