UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68221: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: nuvoton: npcm-video: fix memory leaks in probe and remove npcmvideoprobe() allocates the npcmvideo structure with kzallocobj() but never frees it on any probe error path or in npcmvideoremove(), leaking the allocation on every failed probe and every normal unbind. Additionally, when npcmvideosetupvideo() fails, the reserved memory association established by ofreservedmemdeviceinit() in npcmvideoinit() is not released, leaking the rmemassigneddevice entry on the global list. Fix both by adding kfree(video) to all probe error paths and to npcmvideoremove(), and adding the missing ofreservedmemdevicerelease() call when npcmvideosetupvideo() fails.

In npcm_video_probe() and npcm_video_remove(), add kfree(video) to release the npcm_video allocation; when npcm_video_setup_video() fails, call of_reserved_mem_device_release() to release the reserved-memory association.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
When can this memory leak be triggered?
The leak occurs when the npcm-video driver probe fails on an error path or when the driver is normally unbound. A separate reserved-memory association leak occurs if npcm_video_setup_video() fails after reserved memory has been initialized.
What is the practical impact of this issue?
Repeated failed probes or driver unbind operations can leak kernel memory. If setup repeatedly fails, reserved-memory device association entries can also accumulate on a global list.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, and linux-gkeop.
