UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68225: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: i2c: alvium: fix critical pointer access in alviumctrlinit The current implementation of alviumctrlinit creates several controls in function alviumctrlinit and uses the returned pointer without check. That can cause write access over NULL-pointer for several controls. The reworked code checks the pointers before adding flags.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed package families are ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What failure condition triggers the unsafe access?
The issue occurs when creation of one of several controls returns a NULL pointer and the implementation subsequently uses that returned pointer without checking it. This can result in a write through a NULL pointer.
