UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68236: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: set newstream to NULL after release In dmupdatecrtcstate(), the skipmodeset path releases newstream via dcstreamrelease() but does not set the pointer to NULL. If a later error (e.g., color management failure) triggers the fail label, the error path calls dcstreamrelease() again on the same dangling pointer, causing a double release and potential use-after-free. Fix this by setting newstream to NULL after the initial release. (cherry picked from commit 99f3af19073b3ddbfd96e789124cce12c4277b28)

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are potentially exposed: linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, or linux-oracle. The affected code is in the AMD display driver path.
What access does an attacker need?
The supplied severity vector indicates local access and low privileges are required. No user interaction is required.
What is required to trigger the vulnerable path?
The issue requires the dm_update_crtc_state() skip_modeset path to release new_stream, followed by a later error such as a color-management failure that reaches the fail label. This results in a second release of the same dangling pointer.
What is the impact of successful exploitation?
The double release can cause a use-after-free. The provided severity vector rates confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact as high.
