UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68261: Null Pointer Dereference

Published Aug 10, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/imagination: fix error checking of pvrvmcontextlookup() Since pvrvmcontextlookup() returns either NULL or a pointer, then stop using ISERR() for checking the return value. Using ISERR() leads to the kernel oops reported below. It can be reproduced by passing an invalid VM context handle from userspace to the DRMIOCTLPVRCREATECONTEXT ioctl. Frequently Asked Questions

1

What access does an attacker need to trigger the failure?

An attacker needs the ability to issue the DRM_IOCTL_PVR_CREATE_CONTEXT ioctl from userspace and supply an invalid VM context handle. The provided data does not establish whether this ioctl is accessible to unprivileged users in a given deployment.

2

What is the observed impact of exploitation?

The invalid handle can cause a kernel NULL pointer dereference and kernel oops. The supplied evidence supports a denial-of-service or system-instability impact; it does not describe code execution or privilege escalation.

3

Which systems should be prioritized for assessment?

Prioritize Ubuntu systems using one of the listed Linux kernel packages where the drm/imagination driver and its PVR context-creation ioctl are available. The issue is specifically in the Imagination DRM driver path, rather than a general kernel ioctl handling issue.
