UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68310: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mt76: mt7915: guard HE capability lookups mt7915mcubsshetlv() and mt7915mcustabfertlv() both run after checking HE support, then dereference the HE PHY capability returned by mt76connacgethephycap(). That helper can return NULL when no capability entry matches the vif type. Fetch the capability before appending the TLV and skip the HE-specific setup when no matching capability is available.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected Ubuntu kernel packages listed are linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, and linux-gkeop. Exposure is limited to systems using the mt76 mt7915 Wi-Fi driver path.
What conditions trigger the vulnerable code path?
The affected functions run after HE support has been identified, but the HE PHY capability lookup must return no entry matching the virtual interface type. In that condition, the driver can dereference a NULL capability pointer while setting up HE-specific TLVs.
Can systems without matching HE capability entries be affected?
Yes. The flaw specifically occurs when HE support has been checked but no HE PHY capability entry matches the interface type, causing the capability lookup to return NULL.
What does the fix change?
The fix obtains the HE PHY capability before appending the relevant TLV and skips HE-specific setup when no matching capability is available.
