UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68314: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: mctp i3c: clean up notifier and buses if driver register fails mctpi3cmodinit() registers the I3C bus notifier and then walks the existing buses with i3cforeachbuslocked(mctpi3cbusaddnew, NULL) before registering the I3C device driver. If i3cdriverregister() fails, the function returns the error directly, leaving the notifier registered and every mctpi3cbus object created for the existing buses allocated. The notifier is left pointing into the module that failed to load and the bus list is leaked. Mirror the module exit path on this failure: unregister the notifier and tear down the buses that were added before returning the error. This issue was identified during our ongoing static-analysis research while reviewing kernel code.

In mctp_i3c_mod_init(), if i3c_driver_register() fails, mirror the module exit path: unregister the I3C bus notifier and tear down all mctp_i3c_bus objects added for existing buses before returning the error.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, and linux-gkeop.
What condition triggers the faulty state?
The condition occurs when the MCTP I3C module has registered its I3C bus notifier and created objects for existing buses, but the subsequent I3C device-driver registration fails.
What remains after the failed initialization?
The I3C notifier remains registered and can point into the module that failed to load. Bus objects created for existing buses are also left allocated, leaking the bus list.
