UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68320: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: fix authchunklist capacity check in sctpauthepaddchunkid sctpauthepaddchunkid() uses SCTPNUMCHUNKTYPES (20) as the capacity limit for ep->authchunklist, allowing it to hold up to 20 chunk entries (paramhdr.length up to 24). However, the copy destination asoc->c.authchunks in struct sctpcookie is only SCTPAUTHMAXCHUNKS (16) entries (20 bytes). When more than 16 chunks are added, sctpassociationinit() memcpy overflows the destination by up to 4 bytes. Fix by using SCTPAUTHMAXCHUNKS as the capacity limit, matching the destination capacity.

Change sctp_auth_ep_add_chunkid() to use SCTP_AUTH_MAX_CHUNKS (16 entries) rather than SCTP_NUM_CHUNK_TYPES (20) when limiting ep->auth_chunk_list capacity.
Linux kernel SCTP sctp_auth_ep_add_chunkid() capacity limit = SCTP_AUTH_MAX_CHUNKS

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can trigger this issue?
An attacker needs local access and low privileges. The affected code path is reached when more than 16 SCTP authentication chunk IDs are added, causing association initialization to copy beyond the fixed 16-entry destination.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
How can I determine whether a system is exposed to the overflow condition?
Exposure depends on whether the running kernel permits an SCTP endpoint authentication chunk list to grow beyond 16 entries. The vulnerable behavior uses a limit of 20 entries even though the cookie authentication-chunk storage holds only 16.
