UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68339: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: btusb: validate Realtek vendor event length btusbrecveventrealtek() reads the event code at data[0] and the Realtek subevent code at data[2] before deciding whether to consume a vendor event as a coredump. For example, the two-byte event ff 00 contains a complete vendor-event header declaring zero parameters. The old classifier still reads a nonexistent third byte and can misclassify the event as a coredump if the adjacent byte is 0x34. Require the HCI event header and first parameter to be present before inspecting the Realtek subevent code. Short events continue through the normal HCI receive path, which owns their protocol validation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What systems are exposed to this issue?
Ubuntu systems using one of the listed kernel packages are in scope. Exploitation depends on processing Bluetooth traffic involving the btusb Realtek vendor-event handling path.
What does an attacker need to send to trigger the flawed handling?
The issue is triggered by a short Realtek vendor event that does not contain the third byte the classifier reads. A two-byte event such as ff 00 can cause the code to inspect adjacent memory and potentially misclassify the event as a coredump.
How does the fix change handling of malformed short events?
The fix requires the HCI event header and first parameter to be present before examining the Realtek subevent code. Events that are too short are passed to the normal HCI receive path, which performs protocol validation.
