UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68349: Buffer Overflow
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: carl9170: fix buffer overflow in rxstream failover path The failover continuation in carl9170rxstream() copies the full tlen from the second USB transfer instead of capping at rxfailovermissing bytes. When both transfers are near maximum size, the total exceeds the 65535-byte failover SKB, triggering skboverpanic. Limit the copy size to the missing byte count. In carl9170_rx_stream()'s failover continuation, cap the copy from the second USB transfer to rx_failover_missing bytes instead of copying the full tlen.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages may be affected if they use hardware supported by the carl9170 Wi-Fi driver. The vulnerable path is in USB receive-stream failover handling for that driver.
What conditions are required to trigger the overflow?
The failover path must process a second USB transfer while the transfers are near their maximum sizes. In that situation, copying the full second transfer can exceed the 65,535-byte failover SKB allocation and trigger skb_over_panic.
What happens when the vulnerable condition is reached?
The oversized copy causes an skb_over_panic condition due to exceeding the failover socket-buffer size. The provided data identifies this as a buffer overflow but does not specify further impact or exploitability outcomes.
What does the available fix change?
The fix limits the continuation copy from the second USB transfer to the number of bytes missing from the failover buffer, rather than copying the full transfer length.
