UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68350: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: carl9170: fix OOB read from off-by-two in TX status handler The bounds check in carl9170txprocessstatus() uses i > ((cmd->hdr.len / 2) + 1) which is off by two, allowing 2 extra iterations past valid txstatus entries when the firmware- controlled hdr.ext exceeds hdr.len/2. Fix by using the correct comparison i >= (cmd->hdr.len / 2).

In carl9170_tx_process_status(), replace the bounds check `i > ((cmd->hdr.len / 2) + 1)` with the correct comparison `i >= (cmd->hdr.len / 2)` to prevent out-of-bounds reads.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected software list includes Ubuntu linux, linux-fips, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-gcp, and their listed FIPS variants. Exposure requires use of the carl9170 Wi-Fi driver.
What is required to trigger the out-of-bounds read?
The condition is in the carl9170 TX status handler and occurs when firmware-controlled hdr.ext exceeds half of hdr.len. The faulty bounds check can then permit two iterations beyond the valid TX status entries.
How can I determine whether a system has the fix?
Check whether the installed kernel includes the upstream stable commit fab6ff91d5b8c4af62e2ced42fb357fa3eb9fd59. The corrected check stops processing when i is greater than or equal to hdr.len divided by two.
