UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68361: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hwmon: (corsair-psu) Stop device IO before calling hidhwstop hidhwstop() does not stop the device IO. This results in a race condition between hidinputreport() and the point immediately following the execution of hiddeviceiostart() within corsairpsuprobe(). If the probe operation fails after "io start" has been initiated, this race condition will result in a uaf vulnerability [1]. CPU0 CPU1 ==== ==== corsairpsuprobe() hiddeviceiostart() ... unlock driverinputlock hidhwstop() kfree(hidraw) hidinputreport() ... acquire driverinputlock hidreportrawevent() hidrawreportevent() ... access hidraw's listlock // trigger uaf Consequently, when corsairpsuprobe() fails and hidhwstop() needs to be executed, the iostarted flag is first cleared while holding the driverinputlock to prevent potential race conditions involving input reports. In corsairpsu_probe(), call hid_device_io_stop() before hid_hw_stop() when device I/O has been started; clear the io_started flag while holding driver_input_lock to prevent races with input reports.
Linux kernel hwmon corsair-psu driver probe failure cleanup call order = hid_device_io_stop() before hid_hw_stop()

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most likely exposed to this issue?
The issue is associated with the corsair-psu hardware-monitoring driver, so systems using a Corsair PSU handled by that driver are the relevant population. The affected Ubuntu kernel package families listed are linux, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-riscv, and linux-gkeop.
What condition is required for the use-after-free to occur?
The driver probe must fail after device I/O has been started, causing cleanup to call hid_hw_stop while an input report can still be processed. Concurrent HID input-report handling can then access freed hidraw state.
