UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68391: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: mgmt: hold reference for hciconn in mgmtpendingcmds Dereferencing RCU-protected pointers outside critical sections is invalid and may lead to UAF. Use of hciconn in hcisync callbacks also needs to hold refcount to avoid UAF. Take appropriate locks for hciconn lookups, and take refcount for hciconn pointers stored in mgmtpendingcmd so that the pointer stays valid. When accessing conn->state, ensure hdev->lock is held to avoid data race.

Take the appropriate locks when performing hci_conn lookups, and hold a reference count for hci_conn pointers stored in mgmt_pending_cmds so the pointers remain valid.
- Compensating control
Hold a reference count for hci_conn objects used in hci_sync callbacks to prevent use-after-free.
- Compensating control
Hold hdev->lock whenever accessing conn->state to prevent data races.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger this issue?
Exploitation requires local access and low privileges; no user interaction is required. The flaw involves Bluetooth management command handling and hci_conn lifetime/state access.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What is the potential impact?
A use-after-free condition in the kernel Bluetooth management path could allow a local low-privileged attacker to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The provided severity vector rates all three impacts as high.
